Summary Services

Garden Design Services in Essex, Cambridge and Suffolk

Award-winning garden and landscape designer and garden art specialist Dan Hartley specialises in stunning garden transformations that invite delight for years to come.

Our bespoke garden design service takes you step by step from initial consultation to a finished garden in the following stages:

1.    INITIAL SITE VISIT

Following an initial telephone consultation, we conduct an initial site visit to gain a better understanding of your requirements, get a feel for the space and determine the garden brief.  We can then provide you with a detailed fee proposal for the design of your garden.

2.    CONCEPT DESIGN

The next step is appointment of a professional surveyor to conduct a full survey of the site, to determine the layout as well as the topography and existing services.  From this we produce the garden concept design in the form of 2D and 3D images, with mood boards to support the concept presentation.  At this stage the focus is on the layout of the garden for your approval, rather than the specific details.

3.    DEVELOPED DESIGN

Following agreement of the concept, the details of the design are taken a step further to produce the final masterplan, incorporating spatial arrangements, material palettes and planting mood boards.  This detailed development and overall visualisation of the garden design helps provide you with a sense of your new garden.

4.    TECHNICAL DESIGN

Your approval of the Masterplan leads to the preparation of setting out plans, detailed section and construction drawings, design detailing of all hard landscaping elements, lighting and irrigation plans require. This efficient communication of the design enables landscapers to assess and quote for everything they need to bring your garden design to reality.

5.    PLANTING DESIGN

The Planting Palette showing suitable species for the design is produced and a Planting Plan is drawn up.  This sets out the locations of all plants on site to enable planting by the selected Landscaper. A plant schedule listing species, pot size and quantities for costing and ordering is finalised.

6.    TENDER

All design documents are packaged for pricing by Landscape Contractors and returned costings checked for errors. We then select and meet with potential landscapers before reviewing their proposals and providing our recommendations for a suitable landscaper for the project.

7.    SITE MONITORING

We offer site monitoring during construction of the garden design, to ensure the design is being followed correctly.

8.    AFTER CARE

Upon completion, a seasonal maintenance schedule is provided and aftercare arrangements are discussed. We offer ongoing visits to advise on maintenance and any interventions to improve your garden as it evolves over time. We can also recommend a local company to help care for your new garden to keep it looking its best all year round.

At each stage you have the opportunity to review and comment on how the design is progressing.

If you live in Essex, Cambridge, Suffolk or surrounding areas and would like to discuss how we could transform your garden, simply give us a call on 07814 776 032 and we would be delighted to speak to you.
