In Progress: Gravel Garden, Hackney

Mediterranean planting that seems as if it has naturalised in the garden. Drought tolerant planting with a long flowering season surrounded by gravel, grasses are minimalised and alternative grass like plants have been used which do not have the same allergen effects. A small quantity of carefully selected boulders have been positioned to enhance the relaxed, casual style, add an element of sculpture, and provide places to sit amongst the planting.
A single multi-stem tree is the centrepiece, replicating a shade tree in the Mediterranean.

The lower section of the garden has pots added for interest and to break up the open floor space. Rechargeable outdoor lanterns add an artistic element in the day and create a warm and relaxing evening ambiance. Trailing herbs and flowering plants have been used in the terraced planters to break up the brickwork, and evergreen scented climbers have been suggested to partially cover the walls here and in the upper garden.
